Description:
Still bearing a strong resemblance to their winged ancestors, as well as their name, jungle gryphon feathers and fur are jewel-bright. The most common coloring is a body of brilliant green, with bright blue plumes, fur-feathers and neck, blue or purple crest with green on the top of the head, large glowingly gold eyes, golden beak, legs and feet. The talons are usually either dark brown or black.

As carnivores, jungle gryphons are accustomed to fighting. They attack by first pouncing from concealment, then raking with both front claws while delivering a very powerful bite with their beak.

Habitat/Society:
Primarily solitary, every three to five years depending on food availability a female seeks out a male and the two build a nest. After three months the female gives live birth to one or two gryphlets, which she nurses until their beaks start to harden at a week of age. Then they get changed to a diet of half-digested meat, which gives way to fresh-killed meat after another two weeks, then after yet another two weeks the parents start bringing live but disabled animals back to the nest for the gryphlets to practice killing. After three more weeks of this, they are ready to leave the nest and join their parents, learning to hunt. They depart the nest after a year, at which time the parents part ways as well.

A direct descendent of the more commonly sighted gryphon, jungle gryphons are a sub-species that, from making their homes in jungle too dense for flight, gradually lost first the use of their wings, then the wings altogether. They hunt the myriad species that live in the verdant jungles, having a particular preference for snakes, which they are skilled at killing with a quick snapping bite to the back of the neck.
