Alignment: Usually neutral evil Description: Anthrokigs are rare and usually encountered by either hunters who wish to hang their heads upon walls or by merchants who wish to kill the beast and use its shell. They range from 10 feet to enormous 25 feet in length. Their shell is of a dark toned crimson color, along with black. Their shells are extremely hard and are very frequently used in the forging of shields and weapons. The Anthrokig has about 7 legs, and very much resembles a large trantuala. Combat:
Anthrokigs are quite capable of holding their own ground in any hostile situation. First they usually try to grasp their prey in their mandibles and tear him apart with their fangs. If that does not work, then they will utilize the deadly venom that flows through their saliva. Once injected, the victim usually dies in 45-60 minutes. Due to their hardened shell, enormous size, unmatched strength and deadly venom, the Anthrokig is a challenge for even the most prominent hunter. The only way for an Anthrokig to be killed is if one were to attack it in its thorax. The Thorax is the only portion of its body that is soft and open to attack. A calculated spear to the thorax or a stab will usually stun the large insect, and further blows can kill it. Habitat/Society:
The Anthrokig has no society and its habitat is usually a wet mountainous area or a damp swamp. Even though they prefer the wet environment, a breed of the Anthrokig called the "Green Anthrokig" have been viewed in deserts and dry areas, but these are extremely rare. The Anthrokig usually spends it life in solitude, with exception to mating season which lasts for about 3 weeks. The male is responsible for initiating the call and when he sees a potential mate, he responds by sending her a series of awkward beeps and chirps. She will either respond back if interested or will simply turn away. Battles for female are common and usually result in death of the weaker male. Ecology:
Anthrokigs usually live for about seventeen to twenty years. They grow extremely fast and will reach maturity when they are around nine. The Mother usually hatches about 20-40 eggs at one time. She watches over them for about 3 months after hatching and then throws them on their own. About 60% of Anthrokigs die before they reach four because of hunters and other predators such as dragons and trolls. |
