Description:
Ashen elves stand upon average four and a half feet tall. The usual pointed ears are often more round if they're even visible at all. Their skin begins as a brownish color, but it takes on the general hue of the city in which they live after a few days. Often their coloration is mottled as opposed to an almost solid color. The color of their eye will slowly change in hue to the place of their upbringing. The pupils of their eyes expand to almost take up the entire iris in low light situations. They will wear whatever they can find, often layering clothes against the cold.

The color of their eye will slowly change in hue to the place of their upbringing. The pupils of their eyes expand to almost take up the entire iris in low light situations. They will wear whatever they can find, often layering clothes against the cold.
Combat:
Ashen elves are a defeated people. Formal weapons training is generally unavailable to them. This leads them to use simple weapons, small blades and bludgeons.
Generally they are without honor, and a fight shows this clearly. They are perfectly willing to bite and gouge on most occassions. A knife flashes in a fight which had previously been without weapons. There are no rules in a fight with an ashen elf.

The ashen elves were orginally a very loose and scattered people. They lived in tribes about the forests, content. Their lives changed in the passing of a single season. The elves were slowly pushed out from their homes to provide timber and space for the local human settlements. Those that resisted were killed or captured. The ones that were left became refugees, not allowed to settle again in the forests.
They came to live in and around the Human cities. Ash covered the skies and the streets, belched out by the human's wood burning industries. The elves gathered together for mutual protection, in much larger numbers then they had been previously accustomed. Most of them were refused work by the local populace, and soon they were forced into less savory means of earning an income. Slowly their former way of life died. Their morals were sacrificed for food. Their long traditions forgotten with time and lack of use.
Thief, beggar, rat catcher, and prostitute became their trades. They lived in the slums of the cities. Their lineage became mottled as the local human populations spent time with the cheap elven whores. few of the more human looking ash elves could escape the slums. Most were given away by their skin or eye color. None were ever completely free of one of these two marks.
Justice was something only the human population indulged in. Crimes were met with vengeance, if at all. Brawls broke out frequently, and posessions were only safe if you had a reputation for getting back what was yours.
Marriage is now a thing not seen in their midst. It has died with their traditions. It's not uncommon to see a man and woman together for long periods of time. However, these arrangements rarely keep either from persuing other relationships. This doesn't mean neither gets jealous, often such things are the cause of violent fights.
