The black mountain deer are named after the mountains where they were discovered and the males protect the cliffs they have chosen to habitate on. They are cliff dwellers much like mountain goats, and are herbivores, eating the plants and grasses of the forests and valleys surrounding the immediate mountain range. The males horns are sharp, the tips like razors and they can stab at any threat, or use their powerful hindquarters to kick. They can also flee if they are over taken by a possible enemy, deftly scaling the ridges of mountain ranges. Habitat/Society:
Black Mountain Deer live in small groups, forming their habitats along the midrange areas of the mountains. They are warm blooded creatures, usually living in packs of 10-12, and raising their young inside empty shallow caverns along the rocks. The males dominate the packs, and watch over the kids while the females graze in groups. They are considered a delicacy to many as their meat is tender and their hides tough and warm for any man who might need it. They are a common species and reproduce 3 times a year, once at the end of winter, again in the spring and once, mid summer. Ecology:
The black mountain deer feast on the forests in the mountains, and the natural grasses, keeping the balance of growth stable on the forest floors. They eat the lower branches, stripping the leaves, bark and branches, allowing for new fauna to grow come spring. They are a warm blooded mammal and sustain the balance of life within the mountains and forests where they keep their habitat. |
