Description: The race called faux-elf is divided into several subraces: Artisan, Laborer, Servant, Hareema, and one referred to in polite circles as Trial Gamma 4. Most just call them the Dark Children. Artisans stand generally five feet ten inches in height with vibrant green hair. Laborers can stand as tall as eight feet with muscular builds with brown hair. The Servants, Hareema, and Dark Children stand at four foot ten with the defining characteristic being hair color and ear length. The Hareema and Dark Children have eight inch long ears while the Servant's ears are only six inches long. In addition the Hareemas' hair is blonde, the Dark Children's hair is black, and the Servants' hair is a fiery red. Combat:
The only Faux-elf caste that will fight without orders to do so is the Dark Children who are quick to anger and prone to violent behavior. The rest will simply assume fetal position upon the floor until danger passes. When they do fight their styles vary. Laborers rely upon brute strength, Artisans upon skill and finess, and the rest upon sheer numbers and persistance. Habitat/Society:
The climate the Faux-elves were generated for is hot and dry, a desert nation although they can and have survived in less ideal environments. They serve the Freemen class of humans which consists of Wizards or clergy, Magistrates or politicians, and Citizens or Freemen without authority or mysticism. Withing the Faux-elves there is a specific task set for each Caste. The Laborers are harvesters, foresters, builders, and beasts of burden. Artisans are trained as any other may be to perform a skilled task with great ease from poetry to military strategy. Servants are the cleaners and food servers. The Dark Children are a work in progress and perform no task well. And the Hareema are simple trophies for nobles and pretty scenery although this is slowly changing. Ecology:
Being creatures constructed from scratch by those intending to control them numerous safeguards and alterations were made to each Caste and with every generation as they moved farther and farther from the original template elves. Many of these modifications are common amongst all of the Castes while others are quite specific. Ones shared by all of the Castes include a hormone deficiency preventing procreation, in most Castes this is to the point of lacking libido entirely. Every group of Faux-elves, save for the Artisans, has an extreme handicap to their intelligence preventing them from learning enough to become a threat to their own enslavement. The Artisans' impediment is simply their numbers or the lack there of. In comparison the Laborers' have the worst mental handicap leaving them barely sentient and behaving more like cattle than a humanoid race. The Hareema and the Dark Children are both blind and mute although their exceptional hearing partially makes up for this allowing them to at least function properly. As well each Caste, depending on particular function, has a set age at which they will expire and automatically deconstruct. Not all of the alterations are for the worse, however, as they do have their merits as well. Their flesh heals at a natural rate, nothing spectacular, except that wounds heal without scarring givng the Faux-elves seemingly flawless flesh until the time that they expire. As well their physiology allows them to go for long periods of time without eating or drinking as well as working far beyond the breaking point of an average human as well as an expanded threshold of pain. In addition they have a language born in their minds although they seldom speak it save when in the company of only their kin, it is called the Secret Tongue due to a lack of creativity in the Faux-elf Castes. It is their very nature, however, that brings the worst of their faults and their greatest asset. They are constructed by filling large, hollow crystals with the alchemical mixture and focusing numerous and epic incantations and mystical energies through the facets of the gem generating the "hand" crafted life inside. They begin life at a physical age of sixteen, earlier for artisans, and by seventeen know all they will ever need to know. But it is their composition that lends their greatness. Being made of living tissue bound by magics they can be altered and mended with ease by a wizard with the right spells and an awareness of their condition making them quick and simple to repair when broken although replacing memories lost from destroyed braincells is all but impossible. The reverse however is quite true, a simple dispell, disenchant, or magic nullifying field can tear their cell structure to pieces returning them to their natural state of thin pink goo in a puddle on the floor. |
