Description: Sea scorpions have strong defences - Claws, barbs, pincers, stinger and armor plating. They walk on six legs, the back two of which are flattened into paddles. Out of the water they are cumbersome but can swim a little underwater. The largest found to date measured two feet long. Combat:
Sea Scorpions will rarely attack humans, unless startled or provoked. In hunting for fish or other prey they will attempt to impale it with the barbs upon their claws, feeding it into their pincers. When threatened, or startled by a larger foe they will strike with their poison, and claws. Impaling the foes body, legs, etc with the barbs. Their shells make them resistant against slashing, and bludgeoning attacks. However a sharp point usually pierces the shell. Habitat/Society: They are normally sea-floor dwellers but they can also live in freshwater and on land. Sea Scorpions browse the seafloor looking for fish, trilobites and other animals in the sand and mud. It also eats its own kind.
Sea Scorpions can only grow in size by shedding their hard shells and growing a new one. While it is naked, it gathers with others in shallow water for safety in numbers. During moulting, it takes advantage of its briefly soft body and abundant nearby neighbours to mate. Ecology: Sea Scorpions can live for twelve years. They feed once every day, their menu includes fish, crabs, lobster, eels, octopus, rabbits, squirrels, and snakes to name the most common. They exist in tune with their habitats, never killing except for defense, and food. |
