They possess many eyes over their round floating body, three tendrils project from the front of the body mass and hang downward until used, protruding from the rear of the body is a six foot spiked tail that can be raised similarly to that of a scorpion's to fire a spike volley. Finally the maws of the creature project upward from the body mass, and resemble fleshy venus fly traps. Combat: In combat the tether snappers prefer to wait in ambush, using their levitation to drop silently behind a target, quickly entangling it's arms, and neck in it's tendrils before biting chunks off of the victim with it's double maws. This method shows a methodical intelligence on the creature's part.
If the victim struggles strongly, or breaks free the creature usually launches a volley of it's sedative laced spikes at the creature, devouring the then helpless victim in ease. Habitat/Society: Tether Snappers live in caves, or deep mud pits and are solitary creature's that hunt by night. Ecology:
Tether Snappers live for two hundred years due to the regenerative properties of their bodies, in that time they establish a domain. Surprisingly, despite their unnatural beginnings they help to maintain their domain by selective feeding, not merely killing for the pleasure of it. Able to judge the population of other creature's in it's domain it will purposefully eat more dominant species that have multiplied to the point of unbalancing the established order, and will not eat unless hungry. It's feeding cycle is once every two days, and includes any creature it can effectively devour including humans, who often times find themselves the unbalancing force in it's domain much to their horror. Due to it's extended life many a legend can be found about the creature in villages, or towns near it's domain. The creature reproduces only at the end of it's natural lifespan, needing no partner it's child is nourished inside the creature beginning two years before it estimates it's own death( usually with great accuracy ). The child grows to one foot in length, and becomes strong. Emerging after the original creature's death it then cannibalizes it's birthing host causing a quickened growth rate into another full size creature. |
