Frequency: Rare Organization: Loners or family clans Activity Cycle: Varies Intelligence: Average Language: Elven and common Alignment: Varies Description: White tainted werewolves appear either as elves, wolves, and half forms. They are usually either incredibly pale or dark in both skin and fur. They have long pointed ears in all forms, more canine in forms other then sapien. Their eyes vary in hue but are generally blue or brown. Their height ranges on average anywhere from four to seven foot. They usually have sharp fangs even in their elven form. Their hair, which is more like long fur, is usually the same color as their lupin and lycan fur. Their claws are relatively short and do not grow or shrink when they change forms. Inbreds often have two eye colors, usually one of them is yellow. It is almost impossible for a white taint werewolf that is not an inbred to have a yellow eye. An inbred mongrel, a product of an inbred and one that is not, appears in similar fashion as other inbreds. This is true except in the case of inbred mongrels in elven form whom, depending on the parents, may gain a few wolf traits. Wolf ears, tail, claws, and variations of these are some of the more common traits. Even in inbreds whose parents are not closely related, birth defects may occur. The severity is generally worse in parent's with close ancestry. Combat:
In their Elven form the strain fights with as much calm and control as they can. This is to help prevent unwanted transformations. Rapiers and other light blades are usually the favored weapons. Armor is rarely worn, both to assist in quick maneuvers and to allow ease of transformation should it be required. In their lycan form, rage and anger are exploited. Vicious attack with both jaws and claws are common. In this form they rarely back down from a fight. The wiser and more skilled are able to think more clearly, but thought in this form is not easy. Armor is never worn on purpose in this form unless it be an enchanted amulet or collar. In their lupin form cunning and stealth are key. Patience is a virtue they exploit readily. They are quick and quiet in this form and unless in a pack they are generally willing to let their victims exhaust themselves before finally killing them. A quick kill requires the victim be brought to the ground where they can be suffocated with a bite to the throat. Inbreds are unable to transform and as such require less calm then a normal elven form would. An inbred usually uses similar tactics as the form they are in and will remain for the entirety of their lives. Lupin inbreds are often very beast like, but more intelligent then true wolves. Lycans inbreds are more calm then the usual lycan forms, and will occasionally wield a weapon. The weapon is usually a light blade or a mace depending on preference and ability. Elven inbreds are much like the lycan inbreds only generally weaker in body. The white taints transform either by emotion or by force of will. During their first quarter of their life they tend to rely on emotion. Anger will often lead to a lycan form, while fear leads to a lupin form. Only when completely calm is it possible to move to a sapien form. Once the technique is mastered they can shift between forms with little delay. Shifting is relatively painless experience, a hormone released into the blood numbing the pain that would otherwise rack their body. Habitat/Society:
The white taint werewolves live in clans of approximately 20 family members. They usually live in small estates surrounded by forest. Their identities as werewolves is guarded jealously, with only the most trusted being let in on the secret. A family clan is usually lead by a dominant male and female. The two are rarely mates since breeding with other werewolves is forbidden since the discovery that inbreds are unable to change forms, taking the form that the mother was in during birth. Mates of the werewolves remain unchanged, but generally hold the same social status as their spouse. White taint werewolves lost the ability to transform those they bite when their strain was first created. The white taint werewolves originally descended from an elven line long since forgotten. They originated in the lands of Trae Kellnor Ston, but with the use of the unstable portals that many of them worship they have spread to other worlds. The name of the one that first created their strain is remembered well. He, Insinceru, is often the subject of either curses or blessings. This varies according to family clan and personal beliefs. He was ambitious, wanting the best for his people. With this ambition and his knowledge he set about to increase the werewolves control over wolves. Some believe he wanted to create an army to overwhelm the lands. Others believed that he wanted to provide better protection for his people. Many who curse his name believe he was not trying to control wolves but other werewolves. Shortly before he was murdered by unknown parties he created what is known as the white taint. The potion, if drank in great quantities would change a werewolf into a white taint werewolf. This process was incredibly painful and drove Insinceru mad. His previous motives were forgotten and he set about making others like himself. By filling many wells with the taint he ensured that the next generations would also be tainted. The effects of the taint were not what Insinceru had likely desired. The next generations had only limited influence on the wolven population. A white taint werewolf was quickly above the pecking order, able to take what he wanted from a wolf's kill. Wolves quickly trusted the white taints, often protecting them. A white taint had little trouble walking amongst wolves, but their were consequences to the strain. A white taint lost most of it's regenerative qualities and thus their immortality. Whether because of the taint or despite it, the white taints are mildly allergic to silver. Rashes form upon the skin shortly after contact is made. Silver in the blood stream acts as a mild poison until it is filtered out of the body. Also lost was their ability to transform others into werewolves, now dependent on mating to procreate. Currently the most common religion is the Cult of the Red Storm. The religion first formed when an unstable portal was found, through the portal a shifting red storm is seen. Other places were soon discovered. Eventually a brotherhood stepped forth and constructed alters around the portals, proclaiming them divine. Offerings and sacrifices are made regularly to the Red Storm. The blood of a killed deer is a common offering. In many family clans a discovered inbred will be bound and then offered to the Red Storm. Warriors and devout followers have been known to willingly enter the portals, offering themselves as servants. In these ways they seek to appease the Red Storm lest the skies be covered in it's presence. Ecology:
White taint werewolves lost most of their regenerative abilities and have thus lost their immortality. They generally live for approximately 200 years. During the first 30 they age as if human, though their original ancestry is elven. They only begin to appear old within a year of their death. Up until that point they appear in their 30-40s. They may hunt game for sport, but the hunting of sentient beings is usually highly regulated. This varies from family clan to family clan. They generally try to have as little affect on the surrounding forests of their estates. It is not uncommon for a clan to invest in the prosperity of a nearby village or town. |
