Batbuck prefer to flee than to fight, but if cornered they will attack with sharp front hooves and horns, kicking at anything behind them with both back legs, and using their wings to buffet anything around them.

Habitat/Society:
Usually found in small herds containing 1 adult male and from 2-6 adult females, with up to one fawn per female. Also found in herds of 2-6 young bachelor males. They mate in the fall, and give birth to never more than 1 fawn in the late spring.

Ecology:
Batbuck are herbivores, foraging among the upper branches of trees on tender shoots, leaves and fruit. They are hunted by predators as a normal deer would be.
