The churchs of Isern are dominated by four religions worshiping the four primary elements of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. The Earth branch is by far the most popular, as a result of Isern's vast wealth from iron mining. There is a secret magic group who devote themselves to a fifth element; Spirit. The Spirit Sect is considered heretical and operates out of sight of the general population.
Climate:
The climate of Isern is very much like that of most of Ceara, four distinct seasons, but none of them very harsh. Because of its Southern location Isern tends to be a bit warmer year-round and is swept almost constantly by strong winds from across the Sea of the Serpent. Inhabitants call particularly blustery conditions Fangwinds.
Resources:
Isern is an amazingly abundant source of iron from the Metalclad Mountains that run along the nations Eastern border. Almost all of the civilization of Isern is strewn along the feet of these rich stone giants in tiny villages, towns, and mines. The Red River is polluted by runoff from the mountains and is useless for fishing and forever stained a deep rust color. It does however make an excellent and often used waterway for ships transporting ore to other parts of the world.
Flora and Fauna:
Most of Isern is lightly wooded and rising tall grass hills. There is a marshy glade area to the West called the SeaSwamp where the ocean waters mix with the lowlands and create a strange mixture of coral reef and cypress trees. The hills under the shadow of the great iron bearing mountains are dotted with farms and gardens.
Known Dangers:
There are few monsters living in the Metalclad Mountains and even fewer in the hilly plains of Isern. The SeaSwamp is a different matter altogether. Strange creatures, called Skrah, stalk the SeaSwamp. They look like upright sharks, stooped over and bipedalm, huge fins protruding from their backs. They hunt the fen with solid black eyes and rows of pearly teeth, searching for prey to consume.
History:
Isern has been ruled by King Maximilian Drizzle for over four centuries now. All records of their history from before the time of his ascension have been systematically destroyed over the decades.
Pertinent Infmormation:
Although King Maximilian Druzzle looks to be a human in his forties, he is in fact a Jann; a genie-like creature of the four elements. He is bald with dark brows and goatee, favoring deep purple robes when in his castle. He has a well deserved reputation for being a cold and arrogant chauvanist.
King Druzzle considers women good for nothing more than creating more men to mine the riches from his country. Women are not allowed to own shops or property in Isern. They are not mistreated by the general population, but many of the King's opinions proliferate the men of the nation and they consider women to be unintelligent and not deserving of equal treatment.
It is said that he holds the favor of the Gods of Elements, allowing for the decades of steadfast rule of the Isern Kingdom on Ceara. All other noble claims to the throne have long since died out, and King Druzzle does not appear to be about to surrender his rule any time soon.
