Name: Grey Mist Isles
Leaders: Lord and Lady Seoghas of the Ferns Type: Elven Kingdom Location: Casidhde Ocean Monetary unit: Elven Silver, Common standard accepted. Ethnicity/Race: Mist Elves Language: Elven Religion: Elven Pantheon Resources: Fish, Elven crafted goods, Spectacular Elven weavings, Magical items. Land: The eastern coast of Grey Mist Isles are comparatively regular and have few deep indentations; the western coast is fringed by steep cliffs and hundreds of tiny islands torn from the main mass by the powerful forces of the Casidhde Ocean. Each of the islands are arranged along a low mountain range, which creates a narrow band of steep mountains and wide lowlands. Most important is Daethoasel (3811 ft above sea level), located in the southwestern section of the island range and is the highest point in the Grey Mist Isles. The main island is named Ethodar’aza, directly south of that is Viloro, so named after the claw-like shape that it represents. The caldera that created the curve of Viloro is named Ru’Ilual, or Holy Mist. This collapsed but active volcano is responsible for keeping the ocean water overly warm, forming excess evaporation, and thereby generating the shroud of mist that enwraps the islands. Climate: The climate of The Grey Mist Isles is insular. Because of the moderating influence of the prevailing warm, moist winds from the ocean, winter temperatures rarely get close to freezing, which is higher than that of other places in the same latitude in the Direlands. The oceanic influence is also very pronounced in summer, the summers being very mild, lower than that of other places in the same latitudes. Of particular note is the rainfall average, well over 50 inches a year. As the name of the islands suggest, fog and mist are always prevalent, forever creeping along the bogs and marshes that make up the delicate island train. Flora and Fauna: The flora of the Grey Mist Isles is made up of thick dense plants that are surprisingly delicate and unable to stand great variations in temperature. The obdurate vegetation rarely survives when taken away from its native land. Sedges, rushes, ferns, moss and grass are the principal flora, all of which are lush and green. Deep, powerful flowers in magnificent hues are prevalent; the spoiled plants are tended to by the elves, which admire them for their unquestionable beauty. Animal life like the great mist deer, rainbow crested fowl and miniature crocodile live within the bogs. And within the mountains, bear, wolf, wildcat, beaver, and native goats can be found. Remaining are the small rodents and birds of the woods, fields, gardens, and shore. No spiders can be found anywhere on the island. Known Dangers: The islands are relatively danger free, getting to the islands can be dangerous if not with an experienced crew, as the jagged coastline can be difficult to traverse. History: The Mist Elves of the Grey Mist Isles have lived out their existence on Rosha in relative peace and harmony. Typical of most elven kingdoms, change happens very slowly, and as such the elven people are sometimes seen as aloof and rigid. But the Mist Elves are genuinely kind and accepting of other races, and as such have had a few rolls in history. The Mist Elves found their place on the world before the creation of the Mystical Storm, some 3500 years ago. Fond of islands, they quickly inhabited the lush and secluded islands of the Casidhde Ocean and Fanchon Sea. Finding themselves in a new land, leadership went to the eldest of the race, an ancient elf by the name of Uth’ulamedre. Wise in many ways, he founded the government, helped with the creation of a city, and guided the Mist Elves into their new home. Once settled, they encountered other races that were new to the planet, some were kind and worthy of friendship and others were not so. Because of the Mist Elves love of the sea, the aquatic elves of the Fanchon Sea were befriended. The normally secluded elves even lent their aid when the Sea Elves went into battle with the scrags. To this day the Mist Elves have to deal with occasional harassment from the scrags, who still lust for revenge. But the scrags were a mere annoyance as compared to Drow Elves of Vvrok’uvin. There was instant loathing between the two races. But despite this, Mist Elves unintentionally helped in the creation and then demise of the Runic Elves. After the unfortunate ruin of Sum’fir, fear of the Spider Queen grew, and five years later, in 3176 vin, it was declared that no arachnid be given quarter on the lush islands. The city was nearly split in two by the dispute and the extreme measure that could possibly devastate the ecology of the delicate islands. Eventually, the debates concluded. Immediately after the decree, all spiders were destroyed. |
