Name: Belegostaad
Leaders: King Dorn Ironshield, Fourteenth King of Belegostaad and called the Orcdeath Type: Hereditary Monarchy Capital: Belegostaad Location: Southwestern Mainlands, deep beneath Mount Tharkarul of the Felevedhras Horshas mountain range Monetary unit: Gold, gems, mithril ore Ethnicity/Race: Singularly Dwarven with a few duergar traders, Peck stone shapers. Language: Old dwarven Religion: Moradin Soulforger is the official patron of Belegostaad and their official lore declares the Ironshield clan directly descended from one of Moradin's avatar-heros. Clangeddin Silverbeard, god of War, and Dumathoin, God of hidden treasure are both followed loyally by the insular dwarven clan. Climate: There is no such thing as seasons or climates beneath the mountains. However, in the spring, the underground rivers swell and the dwarves celebrate the swelling as the New Year. Resources: Iron, gems, silver, tin, copper, and marble. Flora and Fauna: There is a distinct lack of plant life beneath the mountains, discounting the mushroom gardens grown for food. The Upper Underdark supply the Ironshields plenty of dangerous targets to blood their youths with. The lower tunnels have been known to harbor Lurkers, Deepspawn monstrosities, kobold hordes, undead and occasionally, rogue Earth elementals. Known Dangers: Kobolds, raiding kuo-toa, the occasional raid from the Aarakocra on their caravans to the Kadan Bay. Hill Giants, wild orc tribes, and freshwater scrag trolls also plague the Ironshields. The orcs were a larger problem until a generation ago, when King Dorn led massive preemptive strikes against the wild orcs to cut down on their numbers. History: The Ironshield clan is a long lived clan with a rich history of mining, driving back their enemies and bringing glory to their Gods. They are as yet, unaware that they and their home have been transported to Rosha. Most of their early history is atypical for dwarven kingdoms, with the exception of their beginning. The Ironshield clan tell a tale of their ancestor Storn Wyrmbane. It is said that Storn slew the Red dragon that had enslaved that early clan and then revealed himself to be none other than Moradin Soulforger, himself. The Soulforger commanded his people to grow large and powerful, and be a testament to the truth that dwarves are the Iron of the Deep, and the Shield against Destroyers. Thus was the Ironshield born. The clan spent many years fighting the drow, mind flayers and duergar. Three kings ago, roughly five hundred years, a massive earthquake rocked the underground kingdom and caused most of their outlying tunnels to collapse. This threw the kingdom into disarray and chaos, and it was five years before the dwarves ventured outside again to find everything changed. Their clerics spent many days in direct contact with their gods and when finished, said only that this was the will of Moradin and Clangeddin. That was enough for the devout King and his people and they returned to tunnelling and forging. For the last four hundred years, the dwarves of Ironshield have been building armor, weapons and war machines geared to Underdark fighting. They do not know what is coming, but they will not be taken unaware. The dwarves have made non-agression treaties with several of the Aarakocra tribes that live far up the mountain, but are still plagued by attacks by their cousins farther away and must heavily guard their occasional caravans to Kadan Bay. |
