The Aerial Kingdom of the Aarakocra Felevedhras Horshas
Name: Felevedhras Horshas (translated to common it means Birdmen Mountains)
Location: Southwestern Mainlands
Climate: Cold and dry, constant winds and occasional lightning storms
Physical Features: A small range of mountains near the center of the subcontinent, the Horshas stand in the center of a tropical windstream that flows across the Southern lands across the Kadian Bay and drops massive rains into the Madora Jungle. Because of this, massive winds flow around the summits of the Horshas mountains, creating deadly windshears, sudden lightning storms and other aerial dangers. Those who are not well acquainted with the vagaries will find flight near impossible within the vicinity of the Horshas. Several rivers flow around the mountains, creating fertile growing lands and old growth forests.
Flora and Fauna: Surrounding the mountains, a virtual cornucopeia of growing lands ensure a wide variety of forest, grasslands and river plains. Nearly any known plant and tree on Rosha can be found here, growing wild. Herds of deer, packs of wolves and small tribes of orcs, goblins and gnolls fill the forests. On the grasslands, wild cattle wander and graze following the river's path to the Bay and back. Not surprisingly, there are no large numbers of predators that feed on the wild cattle, as these herds are the main source of food for the Aarakocra tribes. On the mountains, themselves, wild tribes of goblins scratch out a living as they try to find a place above the dwarves' land and below the Aarakocra territory. Thick pine forests fill the lower reaches of the mountain that gradually thin out as the peaks reach higher. At the summit level, there is little plant growth and the only animal life is the Aarakocra tribes and their giant eagle allies.
Known Dangers: On the mountains themselves, Hill Giants, Stone Giants, wild goblins tribes, Snow Trolls. There are rumors of a handful of Dragon lairs within the Horshas.
Ethnicity/Race: Aarakocra, a humanoid avian species of warriors and hunters. Bipedal, with two arms/wings, they use javelins and spears when not flying and are masters of aerial combat and the hit-and-run attack. They resemble humanoid eagles, complete with taloned feet and dangerously sharp beak. They are carnivorous and enjoy raw meat over cooked. Air elemental-kin, small numbers of other winged races such as the elven Elohim.
Language: Aarakocran dialects, the shrieking language of the Giant Eagle and rarely, Common.
Resources: Within the domain of the Aarakocra tribes, there are natural deposits of iron, marble, tin and copper. However these are never mined nor exploited in any way. The Aarakocran have no use for such things.
Special Facts: The Aarakocran are divided up into ten tribes, each 'owning' a hundred miles of mountainous territory in the Horshas. These tribes compete for the high peaks where they make their homes and nests. The Aarakocran worship the Elemental Prince of Air, Chan. The tribes themselves, are led by shamans of the Elemental Prince. The tribes follow the cattle herds down on the grassland plains, feeding on those that stray and fall behind. Every full moon, the tribes engage in raids on each other, stealing food, eggs, females and even entire summits. The last time the tribes united was over a century ago to track and kill the marauding Red dragon Scindaar. The dwarves of Belegostaad have made simple treaties of non-agression with several of the closest tribes, but that does not stop the other tribes from raiding the dwarven caravans that travel from the Kadian Bay up the Kibil-nale river to their underground home.
