Serth The Forgotten
Serth lies far to the East, beyond the Ring of Fire and South of Illandria. In size it is second only to the Mainlands and within a more temperate zone than Irongate or Illandria. And yet, it remains an unexplored land. Not by choice, be sure.
Serth seems almost a prison, so many natural obstacles do lie in the path of intrepid explorers. To begin, the oceans around the continent are filled with dangerous reefs that can tear the hull out from beneath the strongest sailing ships. Navigating these waters is a task in and of itself. For those that get through the maze of sharp rock, there remains the Cliffs. Much of Serth lies atop massive plateaus that reach to the edge of the sea and drop off suddenly, leaving no natural bays or coves to set anchor in. Periodically, lava flows will burst from sections of the cliffs, spilling magma down the cliffs into the sea, causing tremendous amounts of scalding steam. Perilious dangers to any that would travel to the Forgotten continent.
There have been those that have traveled there and back again, of course. And even those that have traversed the Cliffs, or so they say. They speak of ruined cities, enormous dragon-like beasts that fill the continent with their shrieks and battle cries as they feed in the dense jungles. And even, they say, Giants that hunt those beasts and feed from them, like wolves taking down a deer. Mountains can be seen through the mists, and flying creatures circle those mountains, they say, and guard their privacy with lethal force. And 'something' patrols the waters around the Continent, smashing ships in the night and leaving no bodies come morning.
In only the last six weeks, a ship come into Ravnglade did speak of the appearance of a cove on the Continent, a safe place to rest anchor. The sailors say it looks as though something took, well, a 'bite' out of the Cliffs, leaving a semi-circle cove. Already adventurers are booking passage for the long trip, afraid of missing out on the plunder of a lifetime.
And all wonder what awaits them there.
