Description:
Alphanx are bipedal creatures with tough, rubbery skin, the color constantly changing to blend into their surroundings. A thick slime coats the entire skin surface. Although they have neither eyes nor external ears, they are able to sense even the faintest of vibrations in their surrounding environment; as slight as the heartbeat of a spider. They use this ability to avoid any possible predators, and therefor are very, very rarely sighted without the aid of magic. The torso of an alphanx is shaped not unlike the head of a viper, the legs rising into a narrow waist that abruptly widens, then tapers slowly to a blunt point. They wear no clothing, and have no orifices or sexual organs visible. Large soft feet let them run quickly and almost silently, the echoing vibrations of their own footfalls mapping the area ahead for them as they move.

Combat:
Although they are rare to encounter and manage to avoid almost all agressors, alphanx are able to defend themselves. The slime on their skin is highly acidic, and they are natural psionicists, striking with confusion, disorientation, stun and forgetfullness attacks, among others. They flee at the first opportunity.

Habitat/Society:
Alphanx reproduce by cloning; they live for an average of 400 years, and every hundred years they produce one offspring. The clone begins as a oval protuberance on the top of the parent, rapidly developing legs at the top over a period of three days untill it seperates from the parent Alphanx, a 1/8th size miniature version of the adult. It remains with the parent until it is 100 years old, whereupon they part ways as each begins to clone, or the parent, having lived out it's 400 years, starts to wither. Although Alphanx build no cities, they are constantly seeking new ways to use their psionic powers, and can communicate with others of the race as distant as 200 miles away with relative ease. Clones are born with all of the parent's knowledge.

Ecology:
Completely lacking in any obvious external eating or disposing organs, many observers might mistake Alphanx for some form of plant, particularly since if caught unawares they are usually seen leaning against a wall, motionless. However, they are not plants; the acid that coats their skin attracts and obsorbs humidity. It also slowly disolves stone, and the minerals thus obtained are absorbed through the skin. Any waste from an Alphanx system is disposed of through the skin with the slime that coats it.
