They invariably have a thick, tangled mane of golden-brown hair and long leonine tails with a matching tuft of hair on the end. Wings and clothing change color to suit their environment, and although they are not naturally invisible like a pixie, there are very few creatures that they cannot sneak up on. They are exceptionally good at hiding. Combat:
Jling attack anyone intruding on the area claimed by a clan with malicious spells intended to torment and eventually kill the victim. They are particularly fond of tricking the target into one of the elaborate traps they invariably build near their settlements, designed to keep whatever is caught in it alive until the Jling chose to kill it, usually after tormenting and starving it for several weeks. They take great delight in the pain and distress of others. If they are startled or unable for some reason to use magic from concealment, they shoot poisoned arrows or attack with poisoned swords and spears. Habitat/Society:
Although Jling live in clans, they are extremely suspicious of even another of their own kind who is not of the same clan. Leaders are usually whoever is strong enough magically to dominate the rest, and they will not hesitate to harm each other if there is something to be gained from it. Reproduction is slow, with a female producing at most 1 child every 50 years, but Jling can live as long as 500 years. It is rare for a single Jling woman to have more than 3 children in her life. Ecology:
Jling are primarily carnivorous, and like their meat spiced with the pain they inflicted on the person or animal before it died. If they absolutely have to, they can live on a vegetarian diet for a few months, but no longer. Although they might prefer to torment and kill any creature they find, Jling are too intelligent to decimate the food supply in their territories, reserving that act for any intelligent intruder and the occasional animal hunted for food. |
