Shange
Horror Realm
Name: Shange
Leaders: Josef Grant, Prince of the City and The Council of Nine
Type: Capital city of the realm
Monetary unit: Standard
Ethnicity/Race: Vampires, humans, the restless dead, elves and dwarves.
Language: Common Gothic (High Gothic among some vampire clans)
Religion: Banned. Religion is illegal under penalty of death.
Climate: Winter shows freezing fogs and snow, summer holds rain and overcast days
Resources: Iron, silver (under licence) hardwood, cold iron (illegal)
Flora and Fauna: A near barren wasteland with one major city, Shange (pronounced Shhaynnge). Forests are dark, foreboding places straight out of Grimm Faerie tales, the fields are mostly waterlogged, hard-turned earth, toiled over by drudges and hard done by serfs, merely tiling the earth in an attempt to grow crops to keep the dullard population of the lower classes; the elves, humans, dwarves and other races, fed and able to be fed upon by the ruling classes of Vampires.

The Vampire ruling classes are in a representative democracy of eight clans. Each clan votes for one of their own to sit on this council, there being nine members. Each council member then votes, over much discussion, for one of the council members (but not themselves) to preside over the council as the Prince of the city. That clan must then choose a new representitive as the Prince is, in effect, of all clans and severs all ties to his former clan. He also holds the casting vote in the event of a split decision on the council.

The clans, therefore, have two major functionaries within them: the Council member (the Seneschal) who’s primary function is to put the clan’s feelings across to the council and deal with inter-clan politics and discussions, and the ruler of each clan (The high lord) who decides all internal disputes, makes and enforces clan laws.
Each clan also has it’s own internal structure of enforcers, councils and governance that may change from clan to clan.

The vampire clans hold sway over the entire populace of the city of Shange and all of the lands within the immediate area. Although they are the ruling body, the “lesser” still outnumber them. The city rich areas (manor houses, private, walled houses) are the residences of the vampires. No other race is permitted within those walls except by invitation or if they are slave or servant.

Religion is banned within Shange. Prayer is considered dangerous and, as such, if anyone is found to be a priest or owning a shrine or any form of holy symbol or shrine, they are put to death immediately on the spot. No trial, no excuses. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, merely that it is hidden and underground. There are many cults, prayer groups and rogue holy men moving among the populace, leading those that want it in prayer and giving hope that one day the life of the lesser will be better, away from the tyrannical rule of the clans.

The mindless dead have been appearing of late (the last 50 years) Due to the squalor many of the living populace reside in, disease does spread and, at times, those that die from them can on occasion, rise up to become the mindless dead. Skeletons, zombies, ghasts, gaunts and (very rarely) banshees. They attack anyone they sense, occasionally even wraiths, even though they can’t hurt them.

Notes on Character Creation:

Any character within the realm of Shange must read the notes on each race as linked on the right. These are the basic and minimun backgrounds and guidelines for creating character within the realm.

The additional stats; Blood for Vampires, Wyld for Weres and Ectomis for Wraiths, should be included in the background section of the character request form, along with a reason behind why they are at that level. No character (other than NPCs or under acceptance from the room moderator) may have an additional stat at 5. 8 is rare, with most citizens of the city (alive or dead) having their special stats at 11. Lower powered characters are welcomed and encouraged as the frustrated wraith or youngling werewolf are great additions to the feel of the game.

Descriptions of the character, what they look like, what they are wearing, should be detailed, but not essay-length.

Pictures are preferred, regardless of style and look.

Notes on Roleplay withing Shange: This is a horror based room. The storylines should be ones of fear, intrigue, politics and angst. Blood drinking may be public, as will storylines of sex, violence and other nasty dealings.

If you don’t like it, leave. If any storyline becomes an OOC issue for anyone playing and that person wishes to continue, that person should whisper their issues to the moderator or gm and make them aware the subject matter is a little close to heart but continuation is OK. The mod may then lessen the intensity or move the action elsewhere.
OOC chat is to be kept to a minimum outside of private whispers or pauses called by the moderators.

The character rules will be adhered to quite closely and any problems anyone has with another person’s character may be flagged up at any time (With an appropriate link to the chamber) to the moderators of the room who will deal with it quietly.

The room is for those who wish to have FUN! Albeit in a dark, gloomy, rainy, muddy, yucky, scary, nasty, blood-soaked, haunted, fascist and downright twisted environment. If you don’t have fun, let the mods know.
