The Swamp of a Thousand Agonies
The Swamp stretches the full length of the Twisted Forest’s eastern coastline, to just south of Thunder Gorge and the mouth of the Snake River. It extends inland in long, serpentine tentacles along river beds and lowlands, as far as Scourgemere in one place.
Sweltering hot and humid, the treacherous wetlands are home to carnivorous plants ranging from Dark Tree groves to Vampire Moss, Pitcher Plants and Sundews to name a few. Animal life ranges from microscopic, nameless blood parasites that live in the putrescent water to Black Garbugs, Campestri, Vegepygmies and Muckdwellers hunting and being hunted by Goblins, Orcs, Lizardmen and Yuan-ti. Quicksand and tar pits take their own toll of both resident and traveler alike, not to mention the bacteria-laden sludge of countless years accumulated under the black, listless surface of the water.
In the southern part of the Swamp, a rocky outcropping supports the virulent warren called Vulture’s Craig, largest city of the Twisted Forest and lair to the most repulsive outcastes to crawl out of the swamp muck and rise above their bestial brethren through any means necessary.
